Tesamorelin vs CJC-1295: Two GHRH Analogues, Very Different Sizes

Unlike most pairs people compare, these two really are the same kind of thing. Both are analogues of growth hormone releasing hormone, both act at the GHRH receptor, and both are designed around resisting the enzymatic degradation that limits native GHRH.

The interesting difference is size.

Tesamorelin is about 1,768 g/mol heavier, roughly 50% larger. Both are long by synthetic peptide standards, and both sit in the range where solid-phase synthesis gets genuinely difficult.

Tesamorelin also contains sulfur, visible as the S in its formula, which CJC-1295 does not. Sulfur-containing residues introduce oxidation as a degradation route that a sulfur-free peptide does not have. In practice that means tesamorelin is the more sensitive of the two to air exposure and to being left in solution.

What length does to purity

Every additional residue is another coupling step, and every coupling step is another chance for a chain to fail and continue one residue short. Those deletion sequences are chemically almost identical to the target, which is exactly what makes them hard to separate out.

So for two compounds of this length, a purity figure without a chromatogram and a stated method is close to meaningless. The impurities that matter here co-elute near the main peak, and only the trace shows whether they were resolved. How to read a certificate of analysis covers what to look for.

Handling

Both lyophilize and reconstitute normally. Tesamorelin's sulfur content is the one asymmetry worth acting on: minimise headspace exposure, keep it dark, and treat solution storage as shorter rather than longer.

Neither has an analysed lot in our catalogue at present.
